How many images areformed when two mirrors are fitted on adjacent wall and one on roof
Answers
A total of 7 images will be formed.
The arrangement of mirror can be understood as a corner of cube which is formed by three mutually perpendicular sides. Now these three sides have mirror on their surface, so the arrangement looks something like this
The formation of images takes place something like this,
According to the formula (360/theta)- 1 , we get the number of images between two mirrors at a time, so taking two mirrors at once we can get (360/90)-1= 3, so 6 images will be formed by taking two mirrors at time and 1 image will be formed because of the mirror placed at ceiling.
Hence a total of 7 images.
Another way to understand this is by making a ray diagram which is a standard but more tedious way to find a solution as you have to consider each and every intermediate image formed. (fig 2)
