Now,

number of selected applicant  = 19x - 800

Total number of applicant applied = 36x - 1200

⇒ number of unselected applicant  = 36x - 1200 - ( 19x - 800 )

                                                           = 36 - 19x - 1200 + 800 = 17x - 400

According to the question,

\frac{19x-800}{17x-400}=\frac{1}{1}

19x - 800 = 17x - 400

19x - 17x = 800 - 400

2x = 400

x = 200

Total Number of Applicant who applied = 36x = 36 × 200 = 7200

Therefore, 7200 applicants applied.
