Step-by-step explanation:

Given How many kg of custard powder costing Rs. 42 per kg must be mixed with 16 kg of custard powder costing Rs. 60 per kg so that 20 % may be gained by selling the mixture at Rs. 60 per kg?

  • Given Selling price is Rs 60 for 1 kg
  • Also profit or gain is 20%
  • So cost price = S.P x 100 / 100 + profit percent
  •                     = 60 x 100 / 100 + 20
  •                    = 6000 / 120
  •                      = 50
  • So the ratio of custard powder will be 60 – 50 = 10 and 50 – 42 = 8
  •  So it will be 10:8
  • Now if p is the quantity of custard powder to be mixed we have
  •        10:8 = p :16
  •        10/8 = p/16
  •       8p = 160
  •      Or p = 160 / 8
  •      Or p = 20 kg
