There are different levels in a judiciary which implies different courts with varied powers and jurisdiction

1. At the apex of country's judicial system is the Supreme Court which is supreme guardian of the law of the land, comprising of chief justice and other 25 judges. Supreme Court is also the highest court of appeal in civil and criminal cases. It can hear appeals against the decisions of the High Courts. Supreme Court is located in New Delhi.

2.. There are High Courts at the state level which have jurisdiction over a state, or a Union territory or a group of states or union Territories.Like wise, the Constitution has also defined the appellate jurisdiction of the High Courts as well which hear cases as an appeal from district courts . High courts hear disputes between citizens,it also has the power to issue writs,

There are 24 High Courts in India .

3. Then there are District courts which are established by the State governments which have authority over district or a group of districts. They administer justice over a district.

4. We have subordinate courts in districts which are of civil and criminal in nature.

5. Gram Nayayalyas have also been established at Panchayat level from 2008.
