Answer:

two lines

Step-by-step explanation:

There are exactly two lines parallel to the y-axis and having a distance of 4 units from it. One will have in the positive axis having +4 units and the other is present on the negative axis having -4 units. These two lines will be perpendicular to the x-axis and will be crossing through +4 and -4.

Given  : parallel to Y- axis and having a distance 4 units from y axis

To find : number of lines

Solution:

Line parallel to y axis  will be of form

x = a

Distance of line  x = a   from  y axis ( x = 0) will be

√(a - 0)² + 0²

= √a²

= | a |

| a | = 4

=> a = ± 4

Hence x = a   will be x =  ± 4

so  x = 4 and  x = - 4

are the two lines  parallel to Y- axis and having a distance 4 units from y axis
