Answer:

24

Explanation:

Eg in humans both male and female have 23 pairs but since males have 24 diff types of chromosome(22 autosomes 1 X 1 Y) their linkage no is 24 whereas females have 23 linkage no(22 autosomes and 1 X- there are 2X but the type is same!) Same case applies to grasshopper. How many chromosomes are in a grasshopper?

Linkage groups in both male and female grasshopper are - 12

Linkage groups refers to all the genes which are inherited in a group. This is possible for all the genes present on one chromosome.

Hence, number of chromosomes is equal to number of linkage groups.

Male and female grasshopper have different number of chromosomes. Male has total 23 chromosomes, which includes XO as sex chromosome.

Hence, haploid number of chromosomes will be - 11+X. Hence, male grasshopper will have 12 linkage groups.

Female grasshopper has total 24 chromosomes, including XX sex chromosome.

Since X is repeated, only 1 X will be considered, because any one X will be transmitted.

Therefore, again, 11 autosomes + 1X chromosome makes 12 linkage groups.
