Given : 15% sugar solution mixed with 5 liters of a 20% sugar solution to make a 16% sugar solution

To Find : How many liters of   15% sugar solution  mixed

Solution:

Let say  X  liters of   15% sugar solution  mixed

Sugar   =  (15/100)X  = 0.15X   liters

Water = X - 0.15X  = 0.85X       liters

5 liters of a 20% sugar solution

Sugar = (20/100) 5 = 1  Liter

Water = 5 - 1 = 4 Liter

Total Sugar  = 0.15X  + 1  liter

Total Solution  = X + 5  liter

16% sugar solution

Sugar  = (16/100) (X + 5)  = 0.16X  +  0.8   liter

0.16X  +  0.8  = 0.15X  + 1

=> 0.01X  = 0.2

=> X = 20

20 liters of   15% sugar solution  must be  mixed
