Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

Given : A pharmacist needs to strengthen a 20% alcoholic solution to 30% solution.

let x ml alcohol be added to make the required solution .

The volume of alcohol in 800 ml solution of  20 % solution = 800 × 20100 = 160 ml

And required solution have 30 % alcohol , So

160 +x800 + x× 100 = 30⇒160 +x800 + x = 30100⇒160 +x800 + x = 310⇒1600 +10 x =  2400 +3 x⇒7 x =800⇒ x =8007⇒ x =114.28
Therefore,

114.28 ml alcohol must be added .                                               ( Ans )
