16 liters of sugar should be added to get 40% solution of citrus in sugar solution.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Quantity of citrus solution = 80 liters

Percentage of citrus = 48%

Percentage of sugar = 52%

So, Quantity of citrus would be

\dfrac{48}{100}\times 80\\\\=0.48\times 80\\\\=38.4\ liters

Quantity of sugar would be

\dfrac{52}{100}\times 80\\\\=0.52\times 80\\\\=41.6\ liters

Let the amount of sugar be added be 'x' such that it becomes 40% solution of citrus in sugar solution.

So, it becomes,

\dfrac{38.4}{41.6+x}=\dfrac{40}{60}\\\\\dfrac{38.4}{41.6+x}=\dfrac{2}{3}\\\\3\times 38.4=2(41.6+x)\\\\115.2=83.2+2x\\\\115.2-83.2=2x\\\\32=2x\\\\x=\dfrac{32}{2}\\\\x=16

Hence, 16 liters of sugar should be added to get 40% solution of citrus in sugar solution.
