There are approximately 3800 known minerals. About 30 to 50 new minerals are described and one or two minerals are discredited each year. The most complete listing of minerals is J. Mandarino Fleischer's Glossary of Mineral Species 1999 published by the Mineralogical Record.

Approximately 5200 minerals are identified so far.

• The minerals are very essential geographical resources for the human race.

• Although we can name a few minerals as per our limited knowledge but there are much more minerals in our planet.

• According to the latest studies, the International Mineralogical Association had already identified the existence of more than 5200 minerals.

• And,almost 208 minerals are human made minerals which are also recognised by the IMA.
