the number of moles in 40.0 g water will be 2.22 moles

given: 40.0 g of water

to find: number of moles

solution:

the chemical formula of water is H20

so we will find the molar mass of water with the help of chemical formula H20

molar mass of H20 = (2× molar mass of H )+ molar mass of O

= 2×1 + 16

= 18 g/ mol

now we can say 1 mole of water has 18 g

1 g of water = 1/18 mol

so 40 g of water = 40× 1/18

= 2.22 moles

hence the number of moles in 40.0 g water will be 2.22 moles

Answer:

40 grammes of water contain 2.22 moles.

Explanation:

  • 10 moles are equal to 40/4, the molar mass of the material.
  • Helium has an atomic mass of 4 u or molar mass.
  • One mole of oxygen weighs 15.998 grammes, while 1.008 grammes constitute one mole of hydrogen.
  • The molar mass of water is equal to 18.014g/mol if we add the gramme quantities of each component in the water molecule (15.998g/mol + 2(1.008g/mol)).
  • Two atoms of hydrogen and one oxygen molecule make up water (H2O).
  • Two moles of hydrogens and one mole of oxygen ions make up a gram of water molecules.

Therefore, 40 grammes of water contain 2.22 moles.
