0.4 moles of acidified KMnO4 is required to oxidize 1 mole of oxalic acid.

The reaction of acidifed (with conc. H2SO4) KMnO4 and oxalic acid (H2C2O4 or (COOH)2) is shown below:

2KMnO4 + 3H2SO4 + 5(COOH)2 → K2SO4 + 2MnSO4 + 8H2O + 10CO2

From the reaction shown above, we can conclude that, 5 moles of oxalic acid is being oxidised by 2 moles of KMnO4.

So, 1 mole of oxalic acid is being oxidised by (2 ÷ 5) = 0.4 moles of KMnO4.

Thus,  0.4 moles of acidified KMnO4 is required to oxidize 1 mole of oxalic acid.
