4- LITRES of 2N NaOH contains = (4 x2)= 8-moles

Here(1-N= 1-M)

We know

2 NaOH+ H2SO4 ===> Na2SO4 + 2H2O.

From the above equation we come to know that 2- moles of NaOH will neutralise 1- mole of H2SO4.

Therefore 8- moles of NaOH will neutralise 4- moles of H2SO4 or

(98 x4)= 392-g of H2SO4.

Give:

Volume of NaOH =4 litres

Normality of NaOH =2 N

To Find: Number of moles of \[{H_2}S{O_4}\] required to neutralize 4 litres of 2 N NaOH solution

Solution:

The reaction of neutralization of NaOH by \[{H_2}S{O_4}\] can be given as:

\[{H_2}S{O_4} + 2NaOH \to N{a_2}S{O_4} + 2{H_2}O\]

As two moles of NaOH are required to replace 2 \[{H^ + }\] ions.

Therefore, the value of n-factor for this reaction is 1.

Thus,

\[Normality = n \times Molarity\]

\[Normality = Molarity\]

Therefore, the morlarity of NaOH solution is 2 M.

Thus, the number of moles of NaOH can be calculated as:

\[Number\,of\,moles = Molarity \times Volume\]

\[Number\,of\,moles = 2 \times 4\]

\[Number\,of\,moles = 8\,mol\]

From the above reaction, 2 moles of NaOH neutralize 1 mole of \[{H_2}S{O_4}\]

1 mole of NaOH neutralizes 1/2 mole of \[{H_2}S{O_4}\]

Therefore,

8 moles of NaOH will neutralize \[8 \times \frac{1}{2} = 4\] moles of \[{H_2}S{O_4}\]

Hence, the number of moles of \[{H_2}S{O_4}\] required to neutralize 4 litres of 2 N NaOH solution is 4 moles.
