=> a gamete is haploid i.e it is having only one set of chromosome.
=> the cells of onion are meiocytes which are diploid i.e have two sets of chromosomes.
=> a diploid cell or meiocyte has 16 chromosomes.
=> when meicyte divides to form gamete the chromosomes become half i.e 8.
=> so the number of chromosomes in gamete of onion => 8.
