Close to half the Spanish Armada was destroyed.
The Spanish Armada refers to the naval forces of Philip II which attempted to invade England in 1588 (the word Armada is similar to the English word Army). The attempt was a failed one and resulted in Spain losing close to half the Armada. The fleet initially set off with 130 ships but managed to return with 63 ships only.
The remaining 67 were lost to accidents, wear and tear, attacks by Sir Francis Drake and unruly weather.
