Question

Calculate the number of aluminium ions present in 0.051 g of aluminium oxide. (Atomic mass of aluminium = 27u )

Answer · 620 votes

1 mole of Al2O3 = 2 × 27 + 3 × 16 = 102 gMoles of Al2O3 = 0.051102 = 5 × 10^-4 moles 1 mole contains 6.02 × 10^23molecules 5 × 10^-4 g of Al2O3 contains = 5 × 10^-4 × 6.02 × 10^23 = 3.011 × 10^20 molecule no. of Al^3 + ions in 1 molecules of Al2O3 is 2 . No. of aluminium ions will be: - 2 × 3.011 × 10^20 = 6.022 × 10^20 .
