how many pollen grains and ovules are likely to be formed in the anther and the ovary of an angiosperm bearing 25 microspore mother cell and 25 megaspore mother cell respectively.

So you have 100 pollen grains as each microspore will do meiosis and produce four haploid cells.

The same will happen for megaspore cell but out of four haploids, only one will develop into ovule so only 25 ovules.

Heya !

Here's the answer !!

The information given is

➡ There are 25 microspore mother cells in anther.

➡ There are 25 megaspore mother cella in ovary.

The question asked is to find the number of pollen grains and ovules formed .

Solution :

Each microspore mother cell undergoes meiosis to form a pollen tetrad in which each cell constitute a microspore.

1 microspore mother cell = 4 microspores

25 microspore mother cells = 25×4 =100

Hence , the number of microspores formed from 25 microspore mother cells is 100.

Each megaspore mother cell undergoes Meiosis to form a megaspore tetrad of those four mega spores only one is functional and remaining three degenerate.

1 megaspore mother cell = 1 ovule

25 megaspore mother cells = 25 ovules.

Hence, the number of megaspores formed from 25 megaspore mother cells is 25.

Therefore, the number of pollen grains and ovules formed from a angiosperm having 25 microspore mother cells in it's anther and 25 megaspore mother cells in its ovary is 100 and 25 respectively.

Hope this helps you :)
