Pakistan is an Islamic country situated in southern Asia and the sixth most populous country in the world. It got it's independence on 14th August, 1947 from British and it is partitioned as a separate nation from India. Before Bangladesh was formed, it was part of Pakistan generally called as East Pakistan. But in 1970 East Pakistan was separted and formed as new nation called Bangladesh under the leadership of Mujib-ur-Rahman.

PROCINCES OF PAKISTAN: For administrative convenience Pakistan was divided into provinces. These provinces are headed by Cheif ministers and there is governor for each province. Pakistan was divided into four major provinces namely: Sindh province,Punjab province, Pakhtoon khuwah ( NWFP) and Baluchistan province.

SINDH PROVINCE: Generally, the word Sindh is orgined from the river Sindhu or Indus. The language here spoken is also Sindh. This area is famous for the Indus valley Civilization as major cities like Mohenjadaro and Harappa are situated here. Karachi is the major city in this province.This is the third largest province.

PUNJAB PROVINCE: This province was divided from the large Punjab province under British raj. This province was divided into two during Partition. The Western Punjab lies in Pakistan and Eastern lies in India. The word Punjab means five rivers. rivers: Ravi, son, Beas, Sutlej, Chenab flow through this province. This province is largest populated.

PAKHTOON KHUWAH ( NWFP) : This province is the part of British Province called as North West Frontiers of Pakistan. This is the border region in Pakistan where tribals generally live. This region is near to the Afghanistan which is generally troubled by Talibans. This region is also called as land of Pathans.

BALUCHISTAN PROVINCE: This is the largest province in terms of area. This was the first region to face the invasions of Muslim invaders. Famous Harappan city was Mehrgarh. Quetta is capital of Baluchistan. This area shares boundary with Sindh and NWFP.

• Pakhtoon Khuwah:

The Pakhtoon Khwah is the land of Pakhtoon or Pathans as called by the English.

• Balouchistan Province:

It is the largest province in terms of land area, forming the southwestern region of the country.

Its provincial capital and largest city is Quetta.

• Gilgit Baltistan:

Gilgit-Baltistan, formerly known as the Northern Areas, is the northernmost territory administered by Pakistan.
