Q. How many rational number lie in between two rational numbers?
A. Infinitely many.
Know why:
A rational number is a number which can be written in form of p/q where (p, q) ∊ Z and q ≠ 0. Therefore there are many rational numbers in the universe. But, as per our view, let us take any two rational numbers, say 2 and 3. By mean method, we can find that, 3/2, 5/4, etc. lie in between them. Further if we go on dividing those, we will sure find many rational numbers.
Points necessary to keep in mind:
- All natural numbers, whole numbers and integers are rational numbers.
- There exists infinitely many rational numbers in between and two rational numbers.
- There exists infinitely many irrational numbers in between two rational numbers as well as,
- there are infinitely many rational numbers in between any two irrational numbers.
It is denoted by the symbol 'Q' universally.
