When I was a kid reading up on everything I could about Space, books about Astronomy and outer space said that Jupiter had 12 natural satellites (Moons).

In recent decades, humanity has had a chance to take a closer look, especially via automated space probes. At last count, Jupiter has 69 known natural satellites. Of these, 53 are less than 10 kilometres in diameter and have only been discovered since 1975. The four largest moons, known as the "Galilean moons" after their discoverer, are larger than or comparable in size to that of Earth’s Moon.

There are almost certainly many more small, undiscovered natural objects orbiting Jupiter. Some of these may be captured asteroids or fragments of asteroids and comets.
