Seasons

Explanation:

Given below are the four different seasons in India:

  • Cold weather
  • Hot weather
  • Southwest monsoon season
  • Retreating monsoon season.

Cold weather

  • December and January are the coldest months in the northern plains of India. Generally, the cold season starts in mid-November in North India.
  • However, the peninsular region of India does not have a well-defined winter season.

Hot weather

  • The hot weather in South India is mild and not as intense as that found in North India, due to the moderate influence of the oceans.
  • April, May, and June are the summer months in North India. The temperature in most parts of India has been recorded in the range of 30°-32°C.

Southwest monsoon season

  • During the southwest monsoon season, the rains start suddenly. One consequence of the first rain is that it causes a significant drop in temperature.
  • The monsoon reaches the land in two branches: (i) Arabian Sea branch (ii) Bay of Bengal branch.
  • The monsoon usually arrives in the coastal areas of Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa in the first week of June, and in the interior parts, it will be in the first week of July.

Retreat of monsoon season

  • The months of October and November are known for the retreating monsoons.
  • In the retreating monsoon, the weather in northern India is dry but it is associated with rain in the eastern part peninsula.
  • The retreating southwest monsoon season brings with it clear skies and a temperature rise. The ground is still moist.
