Explanation:

There are six seasons in a year in West Bengal. They come one after another. They are summer, the rains, the autumn, the late autumn (Hemanta), winter and spring. Our Bengali year begins with summer. It is the most unwelcome season. The sun emits scorching heat and we suffer from unbearable heat. Trees and plants wither and ponds and wells dry up.

Then comes the rainy season with a new hope. (Then the rainy season comes very soon with new hopes for all). The hearts of the farmers leap up in joy at the sight of the clouds in the sky. The rainy season is both pleasant and unpleasant at the same time. It is the season of tilling and sowing.

After the rain comes the autumn. It is the season of flowers. The sky gets clear of cloud. (The sky becomes cloudless). Different flowers blossom and their sweet scent waft all around. Moon light bathes the earth at night.

Next comes late autumn (Hemanta). It extends from mid October to mid December. The Kartic Puja and the Kali Puja are held in this season. It announces the dawn of winter.
