Explanation:

According to the  Women Reservation Bill or the Constitution Bill, 2008, 33 % of the seats in the Local Bodies are reserved for women.

This is considered desirable for two reasons.

1. It will enhance the social and political position of women in rural India. The position of women has historically been weak in rural India. This move is expected to strengthen their position.

2. It will improve the quality of governance as women as expected to be more responsive to the concerns of their communities.
