so it must be written as a scientific notation

so 4 cases are possible,

3.000 * 10 ^3 has 4 significant figures

3.00 * 10^3 has 3 significant figures

3.0 * 10 ^ 3 has 2 significant figures

3 *10^ 3 has 1 significant figure

Note; 10^3 is considered as non - significant figure

exact numbers always have infinite no. of significant figures because we can add infinite no. of zeroes after the decimal point
