Hey mate !!
Thanks for the question !!
Well to get the answer for this question, it is simple.
Significant figures have some rules to be followed. They are
1. All non - zero digits are significant.
E.g. = 123 has 3 significant digits.
2. Zero added in between non zero digits are significant.
E.g. = 2005 has 4 significant digits
3. Zeros added after non zero digits are insignificant.
E.g. 100 has only 1 significant digit. But 100.0 has 4 significant digits
4. Zeros after decimal point are significant if they are placed after non zero digits.
E.g. = 12.0200 has 6 significant figures.
5. If there is a zero before the decimal point, then it is not significant.
E.g. = 0.012 has only 2 significant digits. ( 1 and 2 ).
Anything that can be expressed in the form of 10 to the power " n ", Here only the number is taken as significant digit but the the 10 to the power n is completely insignificant.
E.g. = Here only 1.5 is significant with 2 significant figures ( 1 and 5 ). 10^3 is completely insignificant.
So coming to your question,
2400 has how many significant figures ?
We know that 2400 can be expressed as .
But since only 2.4 is significant, we have 2 significant figures in 2400 which are 2 and 4.
Hope my answer helps !!
Cheers !!
