Chandra Gupta Maurya was one of the greatest ruler and emperor of India before christian era during the 3rd century BC.  He was one contemporary of Alexandar the great.

He had a son called Bindusara and Bindusara succeeded Maurya as the ruler.  He had only one son.  Ashoka the great, was Bindusara's son.  They were part of Maurya empire.

There is a confusion between Chandra Gupta (also called Chandra Gupta I) who was a great king and well known.  He lived during the 4th century AD. His son was Samudra Gupta who succeeded his father.  They are part of the Great Gupta dynasty.
