To find :

• Number of handkerchiefs of side 60 cm which can be made from a rectangular cloth

Concept :

Firstly, we will find the area of the rectangular cloth by using the formula of area of rectangle. And then convert the value of area from m² into cm². Because units should be same to get the correct answer. Then find the area of the square shaped handkerchief by using the formula to calculate area of square. Divide the area of rectangular cloth by area of square shaped handkerchiefs, the resultant value will be the number of handkerchiefs which can be made by the rectangular cloth.

Formula to calculate area of square :-

• Area of square = side²

Formula to calculate area of rectangle :-

• Area of rectangle = l × b

where,

• l stands for the length

• b stands for the breadth

Solution :

Area of the rectangular cloth :-

Using formula,

★ Area of rectanglular cloth = l × b

Substituting the given values, we get :-

➪ Area of rectangular cloth = 8.4 × 1.2

➪ Area of rectanglular cloth = 10.08

Area of the rectangular cloth = 10.08 m²

As we know,

• 1 m² = 10000 cm²

To convert the value from m² into cm², multiply it by 10000.

→ Area = 10.08 × 10000

→ Area = 100800

∴ Area of the rectangular cloth = 100800 cm²

Area of the square shaped handkerchief :-

Using formula,

★ Area of square shaped handkerchief = side²

Substituting the given values, we get :-

➪ Area of square shaped handkerchief = (60)²

➪ Area of square shaped handkerchief = 3600

∴ Area of the square shaped handkerchief = 3600 cm²

Number of handkerchiefs that can be made from the rectangular cloth = Area of rectangular cloth ÷ Area of square shaped handkerchief

➪ No. of handkerchiefs = 100800 ÷ 3600

➪ Cancelling the zeroes.

➪ No. of handkerchiefs = 1008 ÷ 36

➪ No. of handkerchiefs = 504 ÷ 18

➪ No. of handkerchiefs = 252 ÷ 9

➪ No. of handkerchiefs = 28
