dimensions of large rectangle  

                     length l  = 8 m

                    breadth b =  4 m    [ 4 - small square side (2) = 2 m ]    

here we need to find number of square tiles of side 1 m needed to cover the whole structure

For that we need to calculate area of the given structure and area of square tile

area of 2 small squares = 2 (side)² = 2(2²)

                                       = 2(4)  = 8 m²

area of large rectangle  = length × breadth

                                        =  2 × 8 = 16 m²  

total area of the structure = 8 + 16 = 24  

area of the square tile  = 1 × 1 = 1 m²  

number of tile needed = area of the structure ÷ area square tile

                                      = 24 m² / 1 m² = 24 tiles
