Given :-

Length of the side of each square tile = 16 cm

Length of the rectangular room = 6.4 m

Breadth of the room = 5 m

To find :-

Area of each tile.

Area of the rectangular room.

Number of tiles required to cover the entire room.

Analysis :-

Find the area of each tile and the area of the rectangular room.

Convert the area of the rectangular room to centimeters.

Divide the area of the rectangular room by the area of each tile.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • l = Length
  • b = Breadth
  • a = Area
  • s = Side

Given that,

Length (l) = 6.4 m

Breadth (b) = 5 m

Side of each tile (s) = 16 cm

Finding the area of the rectangle,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Area \ of \ a \ rectangle=Length \times Breadth}}

Substituting them, we get

Area = \sf 6.4 \times 5

\longrightarrow \sf 32 \ m^{2}

Converting to centimeters,

1 meter = 100 centimeters

32 meters = 3200 centimeters

Therefore, the area of the room is 3200 cm²

Next, finding the area of each tile

Area of a square = Side × Side

By substituting,

Area = \sf 16 \times 16

\longrightarrow \sf 256 \ cm^{2}

Therefore, the area of each tile is 256 cm²

Finding the tiles needed,

\sf \dfrac{Area \ of \ the \ rectangular \ room}{Area \ of \ each \ square \ tiles}

By substituting them,

\longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{3200}{256}

\sf =12.5 \ tiles

Therefore, 12.5 tiles are required to cover the floor.
