Answer:

Number of square tiles required = 8800

Step-by-step explanation:

Dimensions of a rectangular plot :

Length (l) = 40 m,

Breadth (b) = 22 m

Area of the plot (ABCD) = lb

= 40 m × 22 m

= 880 ---(1)

Let width of the footpath (w) = 2 m

Dimensions of EFGH :

Length (L) = l + 2w

= 40 + 2× 2

= 40 + 4

= 44 m

Breadth (B) = b + 2w

= 22 + 2×2

= 22+4

= 26 m

Area of the rectangle EFGH = B

= 44m × 26 m

= 1144

Now ,

Area of the footpath = Area of EFGH - Area of ABCD

= 1144 - 880

= 264

= 2640000 cm²

Side of a each square tile (a) = 20 cm

Let the number of tiles = n

Area of each tile = = 20² = 400 cm²

 n = \frac{ Area \: of \: the \: footpath}{Area \: of \: each \:tile }\\=\frac{2640000}{400}\\=8800

Therefore,

Number of square tiles required = 8800

Given :

rectangular plot 40 m long and 22 m wide

To Find :

How many square tiles of side 20 cm will be needed to pave a footpath which is 2 meters wide and surrounds rectangular plot 40 m long and 22 m wide

Solution:

Length of plot = 40 m

Breadth of plot = 22 m

A footpath which is 2 meters wide surrounds rectangular plot 40 m long and 22 m wide

So, Outer length = 40+2+2=44 m

Outer breadth = 22+2+2=26 m

Area of path = Outer area - inner area

Area of path =(44 \times 26)-(40 \times 22)=264 sq.m.

Side of tile = 20 cm = 0.2 m

Area of tile =Side^2 = 0.2^2 =0.04 m^2

So, No. of tiles required =\frac{264}{0.04}=6600

Hence 6600 square tiles of side 20 cm will be needed to pave a footpath which is 2 meters wide and surrounds rectangular plot 40 m long and 22 m wide
