3200 tiles are needed to pave a footpath which is 2 m wide and surrounds a rectangular plot 80 m and 44 m

Solution:

Find the area of rectangular plot:

Length = 44 m

Width = 80 m

The area of rectangle is:

Area = length \times width\\\\Area = 80 \times 44\\\\Area = 3520\ m^2

Find the area of rectangular plot with footpath

Footpath is 2 m wide

Therefore,

length = 44 + (2 + 2) = 48 m

[ 2 + 2 means on top and bottom ]

Width = 80 + 2 + 2 = 84 m

Area = 48 \times 84\\\\Area = 4032\ m^2

FIND AREA OF FOOTPATH

Area of foothpath = 4032 - 3520 = 512 m^2

How many square tiles of side 40 cm will be required to pave a footpath

side = 40 cm

Area\ of\ square\ tile = (side)^2\\\\Area\ of\ square\ tile = 40^2 = 1600\ cm^2

1600\ cm^2 = 0.16\ m^2

Find the number of tiles

Number\ of\ tiles = \frac{\text{area of footpath}}{area\ of\ square\ tiles}

Number\ of\ tiles = \frac{512}{0.16}\\\\Number\ of\ tiles = 3200

Thus 3200 tiles are needed
