Given,

The floor of a rectangular room of measure 4m x 3m.

To Find,

How many square tiles of side 50 cm will be required to pave the floor.

Solution,

→ The Tile

Measure of one side of square tile = 50 cm

Area of one square tile= side²

= 50 x 50

= 2500cm²

= 0.25m²

→ The Floor

Length of the floor = 4m

Breadth of the floor = 3m

Area of rectangle = length x breadth

= 4 x 3

=12m²

→ No. of tiles required

We know that,

No. of tiles x Area of one tile = Area of the floor

∴ No. of tiles = \dfrac{Area\:of\:floor}{Area\:of\:one\:tile}

No. of tiles = \dfrac{12}{0.25}

✳ As we cannot have a decimal in the denominator, we have to multiply both the numerator and denominator with 100.

= \dfrac{12}{0.25}\times\dfrac{100}{100}

=\dfrac{1200}{25}

=48

∴ The no. of tiles required is 48.

Formulas used:

→ Area of a square = a²

→ Area of a rectangle = l x b
