Indra-the God of thunder, rain, lightening and heaven was the most important God of Rigvedic time. There are 239 suktas or hymns composed to worship him. Besides he is mentioned in 27 Suktas or hymns along with other Gods.

There are some scholars who argue that there are categorically 250 suktas of Rig-Veda composed in praise of Lord Indra.
