Jawaharlal Nehru spent over 9 years in various jails during the freedom struggle.

This period was more than any other prominent leader of our freedom struggle.

The irony is that the present generation is questioning his contribution, especially the ones who are reading the ‘alternative’ new history being written.

There can be no doubt about his immense contribution to the freedom struggle. In fact, under the tutelage of the Mahatma, he was the torchbearer of freedom struggle.

And as first Prime Minister of independent India, he laid down the road map for a modern democratic republic. He was truly a colossus (not of the statue type), institution builder and architect of modern Indian state.

The best part of his vision was to promote rational and scientific thinking in a deeply religious nation.

That vision is currently under threat…….
