The 3 main types are acids defined by Arrhenius i.e. An acidis produces H+ ions in water. andlastly Lewis, an acid is an electron pair acceptor. However there arealso hard and soft acids but this can get a bit heavy to digest so I will leave it out!

According to Arrhenius an acid is a substance that in water can give H+

ions. You can have strong or weak acids.

Strong acids are for example: HCl, HI, HBr and all the acids that in their formula have two oxygen atoms more than Hydrogen ones like SO 4,H2,HNO3.

Weak acids have less than 2 in this difference like H2CO3,H3BO3.

There are also organic acids with the group -COOH like acetic acid CH3COOH

According to Broensted-Lowry acid is also that substance that can give

H+ ions to other substances

According with Lewis acid are also that substance that have an electronic vacation .
