There are two types of sclerenchyma cells, fibres and sclereids. Fibres are generally long, slender cells, which commonly occur in strands or bundles, and can be seen in the diagram below as dense red caps to the outside of the vascular tissue.

Answer:

There are three types of ground tissue:

1.    Parenchyma

2.   Collenchyma

3.   Sclerenchyma

Ground tissues are neither ‘dermal nor vascular’ and are divided on the basis of their cell walls.

Parenchyma:

Parenchyma cells have a ‘thin cell’ wall and they are also alive after maturity. The shape of parenchyma cells can vary according to their ‘location in the plant’. These cells have a large ‘central vacuole’ filled with water and ions that act as storage reserves.

The thin walls of these cells allow the easy movement of sugars and nutrients in the leaves. These cells are mainly associated with photosynthesis, storage and tissue regeneration in plants.
