Chemical indicators are typically colorless when contained in a bottle by itself, but when the indicator is added to a solution, the pH of that solution can make it express a color. It helps determine the pH of a solution, much like pH test strips; chemical indicators can, however, be added to a solution before an acid or base is added and when the solution changes color, you know you’ve added enough of the extra base/acid to reach the desired pH.

NATURAL INDICATOR

An indicator prepared from natural substances is known as natural indicator. Examples are Litmus, Turmeric, China rose petals, snowball plant, Red Cabbage and Grape Juice… .

SYNTHETIC INDICATOR

An indicator prepared from artificial substances is known as synthetic indicator Examples are Phenolphthalein and Methyl Orange.

Hope this helps you !
