firstly let's know what is leucocytes,

\bigstar leuco means white and cytes means blood cells. They are also known as white blood cells and they are colourless due to the lack of haemoglobin.

\bigstar 6000 - 8000 per cubic mm of white blood cells are present.

\bigstar They are sperical or irregular shaped and nucleated.

Leucocytes are of five types but they are categorised of two types,

Granulocytes :-

They are of three types,

Neutrophils :

  • The have multilobular nucleus. They are maximum in number.
  • They are phagocytic cells and they kill bacteria and other foreign organisms entering the body.

Eosinophils :

  • They have bilobular nucleus.
  • They resist infection and are also associated with allergic reaction.

Basophils :

  • They have S - shaped nucleus
  • They secrete histamine, serotonin etc and they are involved in inflammatory reactions.

Agranulocytes :-

They are of two types,

Lymphocytes :

  • They have round nucleus. They are of two major type 'B' and 'T' forms.
  • They are responsible for immune response of the body.

Monocytes :

  • Nucleus is centrally placed and horseshoe shaped.
  • They are phagocytic in nature.
