Meristematic tissues are divided on it's origin and positions

There are three types of meristematic tissues on the basis of position:

  1. apical (at the tips),
  2. intercalary (in the middle),
  3. lateral (at the sides)

Meristematic tissue on the basis of origin :-

  1. Promeristem
  2. primary meristem
  3. Secondary meristem  

At the meristem summit, there is a small group of slowly dividing cells, which is commonly called the central zone.
