Minerals are natural inorganic substance .They may be made of one or more elements .Minerals vary in their physical property like colour and hardness as well as chemical properties like of their composition and their use . On the basis of their composition ,minerals can be classified into metallic and non-metallic minerals.

● Metallic Minerals -

Metallic mineral content metals in raw form . Iron ore, bauxite and manganese are metallic minerals. These are found as ores in the form of lodes or veins in igneous and metamorphic rocks. Metallic mineral may be ferrous and non- ferrous. The Ferrous minerals contain iron like elements such as manganese and chromites. Non-Ferrous mineral do not contain iron like element but contains some other metals like gold , silver and copper.

● Non- Metallic minerals -

These minerals do not contain metal in them . Limestone, mica and gypsum are example of non metallic minerals. Minerals fuels like coal and petroleum are also non metallic minerals . They are used as use or source of energy non metallic minerals are usually found in sedimentary rocks .
