The method of removal of the grains from the ear head, cob is known as threshing. Simply speaking ,it is basically the process of removal of grains from the plant body by applying force by striking, treading or rupturing.
The traditional method of threshing deploy manual labours. Threshing is carried out normally after the moisture content in grains is reduced to 15 to 17%.
Threshers are the most important activity of farm mechanization. If threshing is not done in time , all efforts made by farmers are wasted. Threshing by animal is very slow and results low output.
Wheat threshers are of two type viz.
1)animal-drawn and 2)power threshers.
In animal-drawn threshers, loped thresher is a common machine used universally.
Power wheat thresher is a machine, which thresh the wheat by the following manner:
1)Feed the harvest crop to the threshing machine.
2)Thresh the grain out of the ear head,
3)Separate the grain from the straw,
4)Clean the grain,
5)Make ‘bhusa’ suitable of animal feeding.
