From the above cross :

The number of possible genotypes is 2ⁿ where

n = Number of paired genotypes present.

In this case n = 4

Doing calculations :

2⁴

= 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16

The answer is 16.

Answer: The correct answer is 16.

Explanation-

The types of zygotic combinations can be calculated using the formula- 2^{n},

where n = total number of heterozygotes ( having the different allele for a trait) present in the parents.

Here the genotypes of parents are- Aa BB Cc Dd and AA bb Cc DD

Since the first parent is having three heterozygotes ( Aa, Cc, Dd) and second parent is having one heterozygote ( Cc)

Therefore, the total number of heterozygotes = 4

Putting the value in the formula, we get 2⁴

⇒ 2×2×2×2 = 16

Thus, 16 types of zygotic combinations are possible between a cross Aa BB Cc Dd x AA bb Cc DD
