Since it's a radioactive substance,

Hence it follow first order reaction mechanism.

Since, k = 0.693/t½

so t½ = 0.693/k

= 0.693/0.005

= 138.6 years.

Since conversion of 5 microgram of x to 2.5 microgram involves one half life (since value becomes half only once)

So, your answer is 1×t½ = 138.6 years.

sidmj30: but I thought like using the exponential decay equation N(t)=Noe^-kt
nymphias15: Well why to choose a difficult way when you have got the easiest one by your side huh?
nymphias15: Are you a pcb/pcm student?
sidmj30: Pcm
nymphias15: Yeah so you would sure save your time in exam by choosing the easy way right? Rather than wasting your time by opting for a harder way.
sidmj30: But options were like 25,50,20,40
sidmj30: That's why I was wondering
nymphias15: Oh is it? What were the units of the options?
sidmj30: Obviously years
nymphias15: Hmm then idk.
