as acid rain contains sulphuric acid it corrodes the outersurface of marble.

The acids in the acid rain react with calcium carbonate of marble and degrade it. The phenomenon is called 'Marble cancer'. The soot particles from the mathura oil refinery damage the colour of the monument, turning it into yellow.
