Leeches are blood sucking ectoparasite. In Ayurveda leech is used to remove impure blood and blood clots. Such blood is sucked up by leeches and then the patient gets relief. In the leech body there is a substance called hirudine which prevent blood clotting as it sucks up the blood. This hirudine is also used for medicinal purpose.
