Melting of ice is considered as physical change for the following reasons:
1. Because it involves changes only in physical state of water [ solid state - liquid state]
2. No new chemical substance is formed.
3. Change is temporary and reversible.[water can be converted back into ice by freezing]

A physical change involves states of matter and energy so melting of ice is a physical change because water changes from solid state to liquid state. Melting of ice is also a change in phase which is also a type of physical change. Also a physical change keeps the molecules or parts same which is observed in this change.
