How mendele interprted his results to show that traits may dominant and recessive?

he crossed homozygous tall plant with homozygous short plant , in F1 progeny all the plants were tall but in F2 progeny 1 short plant expressed itself. through this he came to a conclusion that some traits are dominant and some are recessive but the recessive trait are inherited but expressed themselves a little late
