The merchants and industrialists were earning huge profits from international markets. ... The industrialists and the merchants supported the Civil Disobedience Movement initially to protect their own business interests. They gave monetary help and refused to buy and sell imported and foreign goods.

Industrialists and merchants:-

As Industrialist came closer to congress ,workers stayed a loof. Workers participated selectively adopted ideas Gandhian programme, like boycott of foreign goods, low wages, poor working conditions .Congress didn't include peasant movement in their struggle because it alienate industrialists and divided anti Imperial forces ....
