Question And Answer.
1. How metals and nonmetals react with acids?
Ans. Non-metals do not react with acids. This is due to the fact that a substance undergoing reaction with acids, donates electrons to the H+ ions produced by the acids. But non-metals are acceptor of electrons and hence they do not donate electron to the hydrogen ion of the acid. As a result they do not react with dilute acids.But there are some Exceptions.
6HNO3 + S -> H2SO4 + 6NO2 + 2H2O
2.Give any one example of reaction of metal with acid?
Ans. Acids react with most metals to form a salt and hydrogen gas. ... For example, zinc metal reacts with hydrochloric acid, producing zinc chloride and hydrogen gas.
3.Which gas is released during the reaction of metals with acid?
Ans. Acids react with most metals and, when they do, a salt is produced. But unlike the reaction between acids and bases, we do not get water. Instead we get Hydrogen gas.
