It is a democratic country. People do elect their officers and representatives, and non-elected officials (such as judges) are elected by the representatives, just like in every other country.
That being said, it’s institutional design has some flaws. For instance, the votes are counted by the citizens themselves, they are selected randomly. What that causes is that people make mistakes, even arithmetic mistakes. So, sometimes the votes are not counted well. These errors are statistically insignificant, and furthermore are ignored because they occur randomly, and not to aid a particular candidate.
